I just set my BirdCam up this week and am really enjoying it so far (I work in marketing for Wingscapes but just got my hands on my own!). When I was a kid I would sit for hours in the woods with my grandfather recording bird calls, but that was decades ago and now I'm trying to get back to my birding roots.
What tips and advice do you have for someone like me who is trying to attract birds? Where is your favorite spot for your BirdCam?
My first pics...
Addie, great starter pictures! As far as attracting birds, I suggest starting with basics -- sunflower seed and suet: these bring in a good number of species in our part of the country. Give the birds a few days to find your feeders. Over time add feeders and food sources if you're inclined (I have seven types!). There are lots of books in the library discussing food choices and what they attract. A local cooperative extension service can also be a great source of information on what works or not. As for the BirdCam, I like to move mine around, perhaps a few days at one feeder, a few days at another, to see what's out there and experiment. I'd point it alternately at whatever feeders you set up and feel free to keep in pointed at whatever gets good traffic. I look forward to your additions to the Photo Gallery! And thanks for working at Wingscapes!
