We are fortunate to live in a place where great backyard birding is a reality. A new goal of mine is to photograph every species that I sight in our yard. I will try to post each new species as I capture it.
So, here is the first entry (after the woodpeckers and cardinal posted previously)...one of our Northern Mockingbirds.

Photography has forced me to watch common birds more closely, which personally provides as much satisfaction as sighting more species. One very common bird that I love is the Mockingbird. Not only is it found in the title of one of the south's greatest novels , but it has a beautiful song, fearless attitude, athletic build, and has adapted brilliantly to the suburban environment without becoming a minor pest like doves and starlings. It was very gusty this morning, which ruffled this dude a little. But it didn't slow down his feeding.
